15-INCH FIELD-COIL COAXIAL DRIVER

XH-CX15

Magnetic control you can tune.

XH-CX15 combines a 15-inch paper-cone low-frequency section, a coaxial 51 mm Al-Mg high-frequency diaphragm and an externally powered field coil. Change the excitation voltage to tune Qts—and tune the enclosure alignment with it.

One driver, more than one alignment.

A conventional permanent magnet fixes the motor strength at the factory. The XH-CX15 field coil makes it adjustable: raise the DC excitation to increase magnetic control and lower Qts; reduce it when a softer electrical damping target is desired.

01

Point-source geometry

LF and HF share one acoustic axis for coherent arrival and focused imaging.

02

Adjustable motor strength

Measured Qts changes from 0.619 at 80 V to 0.351 at 200 V.

03

51 mm Al-Mg HF

A central waveguide couples the high-frequency diaphragm directly through the cone axis.

04

Built for exploration

Suitable for custom QB3 systems, prototypes and voltage-dependent acoustic research.

Most of the useful Qts change happens by 140–150 V.

The response is deliberately non-linear. Qts drops quickly at lower voltage, then the curve flattens. Around 148 V, the measured Qts is 0.379—a practical starting point for the QB3 reference below.

!200 V is a measurement point, not a continuous-use recommendation. Set voltage only with an isolated, regulated DC supply and follow the supplied safety instructions.

A practical QB3 prototype around 200 L net.

Using the current 148 V parameters as a first-pass basis, start near 200 litres net and tune to 34–35 Hz. Build, measure impedance and near-field response, then trim port length for the final driver and damping arrangement.
